Fairy tales and forests have always been a big influence on my work. I remember a visit to Tequamenon Falls in the Upper Peninsula, walking through the dark forest to reach the falls. A chipmunk came out of nowhere to block our path, chittering loudly and preventing my father from passing through. Another time I was in the back yard at my Gran's house. In the woods there was a clearing with an old stump. This hat reminds me of both of those happy times.
